Here’s a super Swede with super power. This one-off Volvo C30 AWD Prototype is the work of the firm’s affiliated tuner Polestar Performance. As well as offering upgrade kits for Volvo’s road car engines, the firm runs C30 racecars in the Swedish Touring Car Championship.
But now, Polestar has developed its own, highly modified C30 which will make its debut at the Gothenburg Motor Show on April 22. Under its bonnet is the same 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine that powers the Focus RS. But thanks to an uprated intercooler, pistons and turbo, the unit now produces 405bhp and 510Nm.
And unlike the fast Ford, the Volvo has been tweaked to feature the firm’s Haldex four-wheel-drive system, ensuring all the performance reaches the road. The brakes have been beefed up too, with huge 380mm Brembo discs at the front, and 330mm discs at the rear, while race-inspired Ohlins dampers are also included. Quaife limited slip diffs feature front and rear.
Styling tweaks to set the car apart from the standard model include 19-inch BBS wheels and an aerodynamic bodykit inspired by the Swedish Touring car. Inside, the car gets racing seats and four-point harnesses. Volvo will confirm the full specs and whether the car will become a production reality at its launch next week.
